About Chris Wong
Chris Wong is a photographic visual artist based in Sydney, whose practice explores themes of migration, memory, and transformation through the medium of photography. Originally from Hong Kong, Wong’s relocation to Australia has deeply influenced his artistic inquiry into the emotional terrain of cultural transition and belonging. Working across conceptual still life, botanical subjects, and domestic landscapes, his images reflect a quiet tension between resilience and fragility, presence and stillness.
Chris’s recent work focuses on the potential of the photo artist book as a sculptural and narrative form. He uses hand-crafted photo books and visual sequencing to invite intimate, layered engagements with his imagery. His approach combines technical precision with poetic observation, bridging personal reflection and universal themes.
His recent project Frozen Resilience was nominated for the 2025 Libris Awards: The Australian Artists’ Book Prize and the 2025 Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award, where it was selected for the world touring exhibition organized by the Hong Kong Photobook Festival in 2025 and 2026. Wong’s current series examines the metaphorical potential of natural materials—such as ice, plants, and organic textures—to evoke stillness and transformation within the migratory experience. Through visual storytelling, he creates contemplative spaces where identity, memory, and adaptation quietly unfold.
